This coffee table was commissioned by a mathematician who got the idea that it would be neat to have a coffee table shaped like a knot, so he Googled in quotes “trefoil knot table” and got just one hit, an online article showing the 1992 table designed by Koos Verhoeff. This was before I had a website. At the time, the remarkable thing to me about the collaborative design process to come up with this 5-legged table was that we did it entirely via e-mail, sending jpeg images of drawings and models back and forth. Now that has become a common way that I do work with clients. Below are images of some of the early models and then some images of the construction of the final table base.
